• Proposed development in the new growth areas of Rancho Cordova will more than double the number of homes in the city as a whole.

• A community that lacks social, economic and recreational opportunities throughout is not a balanced community.

• Such a scale of new development poses opportunities as well as risks for existing and future residents and employees in Rancho Cordova.

• Currently, market rate development does not provide choices to lower income residents.  By straight income, 2/3 of existing Rancho Cordova Residents do not earn enough to afford the median priced new home. 

Can you embrace the following?

1. A commitment to a range of affordability in New Growth areas

2. The benefit of partnering quality affordable housing developers (non-profit and for-profit – Mercy Housing, Habitat for Humanity, USA Properties, etc.) with market rate developers to achieve well designed and balanced neighborhoods

3. Staff, community members and interested organizations can develop an effective implementation program within 3 months by reviewing components of other programs that have proven successful and combine options to create a unique and flexible mechanism to ensure mixed income development affordable to a range of Rancho residents. (Moderate, low, very low & extremely low income)
